A Life Steeped in Athletics
My journey into the business world really began from a life steeped in athletics. For as long as I can remember, I've been an athlete—whether it was harriers, athletics, or cross-country. I even broke track records and trained with the incredible Sylvia Potts, who was an Olympian. Running was a family affair—my dad and I ran most nights after he finished work, and that really cemented a close bond between us. He was a coach for a rugby team and other runners, and that early exposure to fitness as a way of life planted the seed for everything I do now.
Movement as Medicine
Fitness was never just about staying in shape; it was a mental health tool. Keeping my body active gave me those feel-good hormones that helped me overcome life’s challenges. We all face obstacles, and for me, moving my body was a way to build resilience and prevent the kind of stagnation that can lead to depression. It kept me feeling better in my own skin and in my own mind.
Alongside running, I loved snowboarding and martial arts. Those activities kept my reflexes sharp and my body strong. Even as I got older, I found I could keep up with or even outdo younger folks, like when I did an army course.
Formal Training and Early Entrepreneurship
In 2006, I decided to formalize my passion by doing a diploma in recreation and sport. We dove into everything—group fitness, individual fitness, nutrition, anatomy, and physiology. I loved it, even though the 2008 recession made me pivot a bit. I took a massage course around that time and that’s when my first business, Body Awareness, was born.
Body Awareness grew organically. I named it that because when you’re truly aware of your body, you can navigate life better. Your body tells you what it needs if you listen—whether it’s stress, gut health, or just what you’re feeding it or telling yourself mentally. Over time, that evolved into Mind Body Soul Awareness, as I leaned into spirituality and started building my wellness center.
A Turning Point: Fire, Cyclone, TBIs & Nervous System Healing
Then life changed again.
After losing my home in a fire, and later navigating the emotional and physical impact of the cyclone, I was pushed into a deeper level of healing. Those experiences stripped everything back and revealed how powerful the nervous system really is — and how much unprocessed stress and trauma the body can carry.
During this time, I was also navigating the long-term effects of multiple traumatic brain injuries. They taught me, in a very real way, how the nervous system responds to overwhelm, dysregulation, and recovery. It deepened my understanding of mind–body healing and shaped the way I support others today.
As I rebuilt my life, I turned inward and began exploring breathwork and meditation as ways to regulate my own system and find calm in the chaos. After the cyclone, I discovered somatics — and everything clicked.
Somatic work showed me how the body stores experiences and how movement, breath, and awareness can help release what has been held for far too long. This became the soul work: reconnecting with the body on a deeper, intuitive level and helping others do the same.
Mind Body Soul Unleashed: The Integration of a Lifetime
Now, after all these years and even surviving a cyclone, that journey has grown into Mind Body Soul Unleashed. It’s become both a physical and online business focusing on mindset, nutrition, coaching, and trauma support. It represents the integration of everything I’ve lived, learned, healed, and embodied — bringing mind, body, and soul together into one holistic approach.
This is more than a business.
It’s the expression of a lifetime of resilience, learning, and rediscovery — and the foundation for helping others rise into their strongest, most aligned selves.
